Altruism: The individual deals with emotional conflict/ internal or external stress by dedication to meeting the needs of others. Unlike the self-sacrifice sometimes characteristic of reaction formation, the individual receives gratification either vicariously or from the response of others.
Intellectualize: The individual deals with emotional conflict or internal/external stress by the excessive use of abstract thinking or the making of generalizations to control or minimize disturbing feelings.

Sigmund Freud was Australian psychologist who gave the first well explanation of the inner forces determining human behavior. He was born May 6, 1856, in Freiberg, Moravia which known now the Czech Republic. It was in 1860 that the Frauds’ moved to Vienna. The life style was higher and educational and professional opportunities were better than in the provinces. He attended the University of Vienna at the age of seventeen. He lived with his parents till the age of twenty- seven.
He enrolled in medical school in 1873. At that time Vienna was the world capital of medicine he there acquired his doctorate. Freud spent three years as a resident physician in Allgemeine Krankenhaus; he spent five months in the psychiatry department. The psychological meaning of behavior was not itself considered important; behavior was only a set of symptoms to be studied in order to understand the structure of the brain. Freud’s later work changed this attitude.
In 1900s he developed the psychodynamic view of human behavior. The model relies on the premise that human behior is brought abut by inner forces over which the individual has little control dreams and slips of the tongue are clues to what the individual is really thinking. Such slips may be an indication of deeply felt emotions and thoughts that reside in the unconscious, a part of the personality of which a person is not aware. The unconscious is the safe haven for our recollection of painful events and also it is where we store our instinctual drives. It is in this part of the personality that infantile desires and demands are hidden from the conscious of one’s personality because they would conflict with a person’s day to day living. The divided the personality into three elements which are: ID, ego, super ego. These elements are not physical structures found in the brain; instead they represent a general module that describes the interaction of various behaviors and drives that motivate us.
ID refers to raw, unorganized part of personality. It is to reduce tension created by our primitive drives which are related to hunger, sex aggression and irrational impulses.
Ego is between ID and the world’s realities. This is used in instinctual energy is restrained in order to maintain the safety of the individual and help to integrate the person into society. It is sometimes called “the executive.” The ego makes the decisions, control actions and allows for a higher level of thinking.
Superego represents the rights and wrongs of the society as headed down to an individual over their life time. It has to subtopics the conscience and the ego- ideal. The conscience prevents us from doing morally bad things, and the ego- ideal motivates us to do what is morally proper.
The Id is found during the primal part in birth where by the child has no control of actions such as going to the bathroom or helping there selves to serve their own food, all of this actions must be done for them by an older individual. The ego allows the person to fight or flight meaning that at that point of danger he/ she will either decide to fight or run away from danger. For example if there is a threat of a dog running towards you you will either run or remain there. The super ego can be shown when an individual can differentiate from what is good and wrong. For example if there is a project being carried out and the individual does not put his effort for it to be done and is found guilty if his actions, he will admit of his/her actions and accept full responsibility of the consequences he/ she brought towards to thy ourselves.
